Springfield 2-3 Waterloo (D.Langford, L.Quinn)
AUL Premier A, Pat O’Brien Park.
Sunday 4th October 2020
Springfield welcomed Waterloo to Pat O’Brien Park on this blustery Sunday morning, It was the visitors who had the best of the early play, forcing the Springfield keeper Eddy Walsh into a few saves from close range, Springers had a few attempts of their own but none worried the Waterloo keeper as not on target, it was the Cobh men though who took the lead, somewhat against the run of play, when a cross shot from Danny Langford went over the opposition keeper’s reach and into the net. 1-0 at the break. Springfield doubled their lead when Luke Quinn finished from the rebound of a Connie Murphy shot from outside the box, keeper deflected the ball on to cross bar and Quinn volleyed in rebound, 2-0.
Waterloo pulled one back after Springfield keeper Eddy Walsh went off injured and was replaced by defender Tim Crowley, Waterloo scored against the stand-in goalkeeper 2-1, the keeper problems didn’t end the for Springers when soon after Crowley also had to be withdraw also injured he in turn replaced by Connie Murphy. Waterloo took full advantage by grabbing the equaliser, when a free kick from their own half was played into the box and finished past Murphy 2-2. Waterloo completed the turnaround by scoring the winner just before the finish 2-3, Waterloo leave with all 3 points, a disappointing day for the home team.
Best for Springfield Andy Hogan and Shane Geasley.
Next up for Springers an away League tie next Saturday against Tower.
